A Hero’s Thought

A Hero’s Thought

The dark companion is his foe beneath the burning sun
Death laughs with triumph for it has finally begun
Blinding flames soar through the sky
with destruction they cause men to die
Lifeless birds of war seek their prey
and without mercy cast them away
he calms his nerves down in the valley of pain
with songs of praise for He who reigns
Now it’s colder as night draws near
And on his thoughts are those held dear
Back home there is a church where he went to pray
He knows the family will be there today
Worship and praise fills that warm place
Joy in the hearts revealed on every face
The spirit abounds for those who go there
For to God they leave all their care
But back in no man’s land the cry of fear
I hope they remember that I am here
I hope to God they sing and pray
That He be with me throughout the day
For the dark companion is my foe
without fail he surrounds me wherever I go
